Ágnes Szabó

Ágnes Szabó’s painting tests our vision. The aim is not just to look at the paintings, but to explore their layers. She tests us with her own particular means of visual representation, not to mention the eccentric formulation of her subjects.

In this painterly world, each character serves a different purpose than we would traditionally expect of them. For example, many human body parts or organs are reinterpreted as the properties of plants. He also likes to depict animals, but at first glance these seem fairy-tale-like. They are endowed with human characteristics and are usually presented in an enclosed environment. The key role of translucency is evident in all the artist’s works, whether they are components of the living world or simple objects. She also likes to enlarge certain material motifs from nature, which she places in a repetitive system. Using the typical tools of op-art, these patterns form a coherent texture with each other.
